Gastroenterology Endoscopy (OGDS) Procedures.

Isnin lepas, selepas bergulung-gulung menahan gastric, seperti biasa, saya telan ubat nexium.
Lepas nampak mcm tak surut dan masih bergulung2 mcm tenggiling atas katil, saya ngadu kat encik kesayangan. Dia pon tak agak2 mengeluarkan statement ini...
"Bila mula skolah kerja Isnin, sakit pon datangla ler yer sayang....."

Isskkkk...ni bukan Monday Blues mcm biasa. Ni betul-betul sakit. Ouchhh...ouchh...ouchh!!

Makanya, melihatkan keberkesanan watak pesakit gastric yg berjaya, saya pon di bawa ke klinik. Dr. Zul tak berapa puas hati dengan record saya. Tiap minggu mesti kena gastric. Sampai bila nak telan ubat makan kacang goreng jer. So, dia buat surat refer ke specialist.

Lepas amek GL kat klinik tempat keja, terus ke DEMC. My case was referred to Dr. Jeetha. Lepas di soal siasat & check-up bagai , Dr.Jeetha suggested to undergo...

Gastroenterology Endoscopy (OGDS)

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is an examination of the digestive tract using a flexible, lighted fibreoptic scope. The procedure enables the physicians to directly visualize the esophagus, stomach, portions of the small intestine, and the large intestine. The physician can obtain biopsies for an accurate diagnosis. Endoscopy also enables physicians to treat some disorders without open surgery. Dilatation of narrowed areas of the intestine and removal of polyps which are growths in the digestive tract can be done even on an outpatient basis

How is it Done, the OGDS?
  • This procedure is done as an outpatient
  • One cannot eat or drink about 8 hours before the test so that your stomach and duodenum are empty.
  • Most people have a choice between having the procedure while they are awake, or often having a medicine to make them drowsy - a sedative (Of koz amek ubat pengsan)
  • One will have a spray to numb the back of your throat and make it easier for you to swallow the endoscopy tube.
  • You will be instructed to lie on your left side
  • Doctor will pass the endoscope tube down your throat to the area being investigated.

* endoscope tube*

  • The test lasts about 5 to 20 minutes.
  • If there are any abnormalities, the doctor will take pieces from the abnormal looking area to send the laboratory for closer inspection under a microscope. These tissue samples are called biopsies.
  • There may be a sensation of gas, and the movement of the scope may be left in the abdomen. Biopsies cannot be felt.
  • If one was given sedation, you will need to take someone with you to the hospital appointment. You won't be able to drive for the rest of the day and should someone to go home with you.
